Why isn’t my wound healing?

When you develop a wound, the body responds by initiating the healing cascade. This process entails natural cleansing steps to clear the wound of bacteria and dying tissue, form new, healthy tissue, and finally strengthen the repair.

Progression may be interrupted when diseases, such as diabetes, contribute to poor circulation and increased inflammation at the wound site. You May require additional treatments to rebalance the wound, making a more favorable environment for healing.

What is EPIFIX?

EPIFIX is a protective barrier that supports the healing cascade. It’s made from the human placental membrane, the structure that provides oxygen and nutrients to a growing baby in the womb.

All EPIFIX tissue is donated by healthy, consenting mothers in the United States who have given birth by Caesarean section. Doctors normally dispose of the amniotic membrane (the sac surrounding the baby that includes the placenta) after the baby is born. Removing this membrane after birth doesn’t affect the baby or the delivery process.

Every tissue donor is tested for infectious diseases to ensure the safety of EPIFIX; then, the amniotic membrane goes through the PURION process, which preserves the tissue by cleaning, drying, and sterilizing.

The facility that processes EPIFIX is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It’s also accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks, which sets standards for human tissue donation.

How do I know if EPIFIX is right for me?

EPIFIX may be an option if your doctor has diagnosed you with a wound that has not responded to standard treatments. EPIFIX is an advanced treatment option to support the healing process. Ask your doctor if it is right for you.

Treatment information

How will my doctor apply EPIFIX?

Your doctor will clean and remove (debride) all dead tissue from the wound. Then, your doctor will apply EPIFIX and may cover it with a dressing and bandage to keep the wound moist. Finally, your doctor will recommend ways to take pressure off the wound to give it a chance to heal.

Your doctor can tell you what to expect after EPIIX is applied.

How do I care for my EPIFIX graft site?

Your doctor will tell you how to care for your wound. It is very important to follow these instructions and not disturb the EPIFIX graft. If you have any questions, please call your doctor.
